Composite or wood: which is better in the Wenatchee Valley?

Composite handles our intense summer sun and freeze-thaw winters with almost no maintenance, while cedar and pressure-treated wood cost less up front and need staining or sealing every few years. How long does a new deck take to build?

Most residential decks take about one to two weeks of on-site work once materials are staged, depending on size, height, and stair runs. Multi-level and view decks in places like Chelan or Leavenworth can run longer because of grade and access. You get a target start and finish date before we begin.

Do you repair or reface existing decks?

Yes. We replace decking and stairs, repair or sister failing framing, and reface older decks with composite while keeping sound structure in place. If the framing is not safe to build on, we tell you plainly rather than covering it up.

What drives the cost of a deck?

Square footage, height off the ground, number of stair runs, decking and railing material, and how hard the site is to access. A low platform deck in East Wenatchee and a two-level view deck on a Manson slope are very different builds. We price your actual project in writing, and every estimate is free.

Do I need a permit for a deck?

It depends on height, size, and whether the deck attaches to the house, and rules differ between Chelan County, Douglas County, and city jurisdictions. We tell you during the estimate whether your project needs a permit and handle the permitting where it is required.

A well-built cedar fence commonly lasts 15 to 20 years or more in the valley when posts are set properly and the wood is sealed every few years. Our dry summers are easy on cedar; the failure point is almost always the posts, which is why we focus on depth, drainage, and hardware.

Yes, and most of the valley requires it. We can rack panels to follow the grade for a clean continuous line, or step them for a more traditional look, we will show you what each option looks like on your ground before we build.

Single walk gates, wide double gates for trailers and equipment, and matching cedar or hog-wire gates that blend into the fence line. On acreage in Entiat or Orondo we size and brace gates for the equipment you actually drive through them.

How long does a fence installation take?

Typical residential fence lines take a few days to a week, with a curing pause after posts are set. Long runs on acreage take longer, and we give you a realistic day count with the written estimate.

Do I want a pergola for shade or a full cover?

A slatted pergola breaks up the afternoon sun while keeping the space open and bright, which suits most patios. If you want to use the space in rain or snow, a solid roof is the better call, and we will tell you honestly which one fits how you plan to use it.

Cedar is our most requested material because it weathers beautifully and matches valley homes, especially cabins around Leavenworth. We also build with pressure-treated framing and composite or metal accents where you want less maintenance.

Can a pergola be anchored to concrete or pavers?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We anchor to existing concrete patios with proper hardware, and on pavers we usually cut in footings so the posts sit on real structural support. Wind matters on exposed lots in Chelan and Manson, so anchoring is not something we shortcut.

How do deer-proof garden enclosures work?

We frame in cedar, panel the sides with hog-wire tall enough that deer will not jump in, and often finish with a pergola top so the structure looks like part of the yard. They are sized around your existing beds and fruit trees, which is why they are so popular in Chelan, Manson, and Orondo.

Wood, composite, and aluminum systems in black or white. Aluminum is the most popular choice for view decks because the thin profile keeps the lake or river in frame, and it needs essentially no upkeep.

Can you replace the railing on my existing deck?

Usually yes, as long as the deck framing and posts are sound. Swapping tired wood railing for black aluminum is one of the fastest visual upgrades on an older Wenatchee or Cashmere deck, and it often takes only a couple of days.

Yes. We build guardrails and handrails to current Washington code heights and spacing, whether the run is off a deck, along a retaining wall, or up a hillside in Leavenworth. Safety details are not an upsell, they are part of the build.
